Emily was a Visiting Senior Researcher (Climate & AI) at the Ada Lovelace Institute. She led a project on the scope and funding of data-driven climate technologies. Her research interests include the ways in which emerging climate technologies interact with climate justice. 

Emily has a PhD in Political Science from the University of Minnesota.  Before joining the Ada Lovelace Institute, she taught at environmental politics and quantitative methods universities in the USA, UK and France. Emily’s most recent role was Senior Lecturer in politics at Newcastle University, where she published peer-reviewed research on climate change, environmental justice and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. She has also worked as a consultant to the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs on the Sustainable Development Goals.
